About This Site
The Cuckoo Club Archives is the website of novelist Lee McAulay, who writes gaslamp fantasy, alternative history and supernatural mystery fiction.
The Cuckoo Club is a secret society first glimpsed in the pages of The Last Rhinemaiden, a gothic mystery novel set in Jack The Ripper’s London, in 1888. Further glimpses into the world of the Cuckoo Club appear in a number of short stories set between the early 19th century and the mid-20th century.
2014 sees the publication of SHADOWBOX, the prequel to The Last Rhinemaiden, set in 1832.
Many works have influenced the development of the world where the Cuckoo Club adventures take place.
The author leans heavily on her graduate studies in archaeology and ancient history with an emphasis on European prehistory and the development of human society. Lee’s work is characterised by themes of climate change, European mythology, archaeology and historical fantasy, which combine into novels of complex depth and well-researched detail.
Lee says: My earliest memory is of my father setting fire to himself. (Almost. By accident. But… Hey.) More of my influences can be found on my Goodreads site where you can find links to my own books and those I enjoy reading, both fiction and non-fiction.
